Cherry Violet Coconut Gin Cooler

For some reason the moments when I’m first falling asleep or just coming to in the morning is when I tend to have sudden flashes of insight or inspiration. It’s like I do my best thinking when I’m sleeping. The other day as I was waking up to a pitch black morning (thanks daylight savings), I had a vision of a frosty pale purple coconut cocktail with violet liqueur and berries. Doesn’t that just sound dreamy? This is literally the stuff my dreams are made of.

Holiday Party Ideas: Sweet & Savory Hors D’oeuvres & Cranberry Campari Spritzes

The holidays and holiday festivities are right around the corner, which for me means two things: cocktails and hors d’oeuvres! One of my favorite things about this time of year is creating the drinks and small bites that my family enjoys when we all get together. We spend the holidays traveling between my parents’ home and my in-laws, so rather than putting together main dishes, I’m usually in charge of the appetizers and apéritifs.

Cosmopolita + an OROganics Giveaway!

I’ve been wanting to mix up a fresh take on a Cosmopolitan for a while. I haven’t had a Cosmo since my college days - and yes, there were Sex and the City Netflix marathons involved. The Cosmopolitan is one of those cocktails that’s gotten a bad rap, and there are an infinite number of variations on the recipe floating around the internet - some of them not very good. But there’s a reason this cocktail is so popular!

Doctor's Orders - an Aquavit Cocktail to Get You Excited for Fall

I’m really starting to feel the fall vibes lately and I’ve been working a lot with apples in my cocktails and desserts. I made a batch of granny smith apple cider with cardamom and a teeny touch of rose water, a golden chai apple tart (posting about that one tomorrow!), and a granny smith & cardamom syrup, which I made just for this drink.

Bitter Bianco Negroni Sbagliato

Summer is in full swing, beautifully ripe botanical ingredients are abundant, and the days are long and warm. I love this time of year, when happy hour means lounging in an adirondack chair on the back patio, enjoying the mountain breeze and sipping on something refreshing. My favorite type of cocktail to mix up on these hot and hazy days are tall and refreshingly bittersweet.

Campari Rose

It’s finally April and Easter weekend put me in the mood for a fun rosé cocktail. I was inspired by my Bonne Maman marmalade to make something along the lines of a Breakfast Martini or the original Marmalade Cocktail, but one thing led to another and I ended up with this bittersweet blend of crisp rosé, lemon, Campari, marmalade, and orgeat.

Negroni Iced Tea

Because I’m still convinced that winter will eventually go away at some point, I’ve been enjoying lots of iced teas and lemonade lately. After my wormwood rye iced tea earlier this week, I was inspired to make a Negroni iced tea. This is so light and refreshing, you could really enjoy it anytime of day. I’m dubbing this a breakfast Negroni 😉

Blackcurrant Lemonade

Like a lot of my cocktails, this one came to me in a dream. I do my best work when I’m sleeping. Which isn’t that often since I have a baby. I had a dream the other night involving a beautiful, boozy, deep purple lemonade, so naturally I had to bring that vision to life. I love whiskey + lemonade anyway, but I have a feeling this variation with blackcurrant and thyme will be in my regular cocktail rotation this summer.

Flight to East Asia

I love creating new recipes but sometimes you want a classic (or a little variation there of). The Aviation is a delicious and beautiful classic cocktail, and I love trying new variations on the theme of: gin, maraschino liqueur, lemon juice, and violet liqueur. Today I’ve subbed yuzu juice for lemon and since I’ve been loving the combo of yuzu + blackberries, I’m replacing the traditional cherry garnish with a tiny lemon boat of blackberries.

An Apple A Day - an Apple, Ginger, Cucumber and Rye Cocktail

I tend to make a lot of gin-based cocktails because gin + botanicals are a natural fit, but I’ve been working on expanding my booze horizons a bit lately. I’m loving Whistle Pig rye and Barrow’s Intense Ginger Liqueur, so I’ve paired them in this delicious, fresh, dare I say ‘healthy’ cocktail. I’ve made this several times over the past few days, and the fresh flavor of the juice makes it well worth the extra effort!
