In the spirit of the new year, I’ve been trying to make healthier choices, but let’s be real, saying no to chocolate is stressful, so I decided to make a drink. ???
This mostly organic riff on a hot toddy blends my favorite stress relieving beverage, cinnamon rose tulsi basil tea, with bourbon, lemon, and hibiscus for a soothing, hot cocktail that’s fragrant, floral, and perfectly tart. And it’s served up in a beer mug because beer mugs hold more tea than tea cups. And because it’s what I had available.
RECIPE:
- Double strength Organic India Cinnamon Rose Tulsi Tea
- 30ml Woodford Reserve bourbon
- 30ml organic lemon juice
- 15ml organic hibiscus syrup*
*Organic Hibiscus Syrup
- 100g water (about 1/2 cup)
- 100g sugar (about 1/2 cup)
- 1/4 cup of dried organic hibiscus flower petals
Combine water and sugar in a small saucepan over medium heat and stir until sugar dissolves. Add hibiscus flowers and simmer until the syrup begins to thicken. Remove from heat, allow to cool, strain and enjoy. Store in the refrigerator.
