Flight to East Asia

I love creating new recipes but sometimes you want a classic (or a little variation there of). The Aviation is a delicious and beautiful classic cocktail, and I love trying new variations on the theme of: gin, maraschino liqueur, lemon juice, and violet liqueur. Today I’ve subbed yuzu juice for lemon and since I’ve been loving the combo of yuzu + blackberries, I’m replacing the traditional cherry garnish with a tiny lemon boat of blackberries.

Yuzu is one of my favorite citrus flavors (and also a favorite essential oil to diffuse around the house). It’s flavor is bright and distinct, resembling a blend of grapefruit and mandarin with a hint of lime. I love pairing it with Luxardo Maraschino liqueur, so it was a natural choice for today’s Aviation riff, starring the appropriately named Aviation Gin.

Recipe:
2 oz Aviation Gin
.5 oz Luxardo Maraschino Liqueur
.75 oz yuzu juice
.25 oz The Bitter Truth Violet Liqueur

Add first three ingredients to a shaker with ice. Shake until chilled. Double strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Using a barspoon, float the violet liqueur to the bottom of the glass.
