Summer of ’92 (Tequila and Ramune Soda Cocktail)

If you’re looking for a uniquely delicious, refreshing tequila cocktail – look no further. This fun mix of tequila, passion fruit, strawberry, lime, and basil is bursting with fresh flavor and effervescence.

The combination of passion fruit and basil perfectly complements the earthy and herbal side of tequila. Strawberry-infused fortified wine and a Japanese strawberry soda take the combination of flavors to a whole new level.

The story behind the recipe

Ever taste something, or smell something, that just instantly transports you to another time? I picked up some Japanese Ramune soda (strawberry flavor) the other day and the first sip was like stepping back into some long forgotten childhood memory.

The hazy, hot days of a summer spent running through sprinklers, catching frogs, going to my brother’s little league practices, and guzzling those brightly colored little juice drinks that come in chintzy, barrel-shaped plastic bottles.

Those blissful, carefree summertime vibes were the inspiration for this strawberry & passionfruit cocktail, featuring strawberry Ramune soda. While another strawberry soda could be used instead, I highly recommend using the fun, marble-topped Japanese drink here.

Recipe:

  • 1.5 oz tequila blanco
  • .75 oz strawberry-infused Lillet Blanc
  • .50 oz passionfruit juice
  • .25 oz lime juice
  • 3 basil leaves
  • Strawberry Ramune soda

Add all but the final ingredient to a shaker with ice and shake until chilled. Strain and top with Ramune soda. Garnish with passionfruit and basil.
