Green Gin + Tonic

The wonderful Clara at Veermaster Gin was kind enough to send me a bottle to experiment with and I’ve been loving it’s bright, juniper and orange peel forward flavor. This gin holds its own in a cocktail, and pairs well with strong flavors, but I decided to craft a cocktail with understated vegetal flavors to let the freshness of the Veermaster shine at center stage.

Flight to East Asia

I love creating new recipes but sometimes you want a classic (or a little variation there of). The Aviation is a delicious and beautiful classic cocktail, and I love trying new variations on the theme of: gin, maraschino liqueur, lemon juice, and violet liqueur. Today I’ve subbed yuzu juice for lemon and since I’ve been loving the combo of yuzu + blackberries, I’m replacing the traditional cherry garnish with a tiny lemon boat of blackberries.

Matcha Ginger Cream

I have been wanting to try Barrow’s Intense Ginger Liqueur for some time, so I was really excited when they sent me a bottle recently to experiment with. I love ginger in general, and the more intense, the better!

Spring Salad - a Gin, Clementine, Radish and Lemon Cocktail

I saw the most beautiful organic radishes at the store the other day and was inspired to create a sweet and peppery cocktail syrup. I envisioned this gorgeous vegetal cocktail with celery bitters and the perfect radish rose garnish...but my knife skills and garnish making skills are sub par at best...When in doubt, toss an entire radish on top of your drink.

Strawberry Basil Sour

This is my first aquafaba foam attempt and I’m pretty happy with the result. I think I could have gotten a better foam if i wasn’t so impatient and kept the dry shake going longer, but I’m excited to finally see and taste this egg white alternative in one of my creations. I didn’t taste it in the end product. Most people I know are freaked out by the idea of raw egg white in cocktails, so it’s good to have options! Have you tried aquafaba in cocktails or cooking? What did you think?

Kuma-groni - A Turmeric Negroni

I’ve been having a lot of fun this week playing with Kuma Turmeric Liqueur in cocktails. Today I decided to try a twist on a classic with a turmeric-y Negroni, subbing Kuma for Campari. The result is something special and very different, with an earthy, mellow sweetness replacing the characteristic bitter bite of Campari.

Buddha’s Martini

I’d never even seen one before today, but I’m now completely in love with the strange and wonderful fruit, Buddha’s hand. I was walking past a pile of them at the supermarket today and was stopped dead in my tracks by the most beautiful lemon blossom scent. I was so surprised when I realized it was coming from this pile of weird, gnarled, claw fruits. The citrusy Buddha’s hand inspired me to create the simple, floral martini, and gave me a chance to try out my new Free Pour Jenny’s Rhubarb bitters (which also smell and taste phenomenal!)

Turmeric Ginger Gin

So a few of you know me in real life, but for those who don’t, I make organic skin care products for a living. The product I’m best known for combines turmeric and tangerine, so when I saw those darling satsuma tangerines with the leaves still attached at Whole Foods, I was inspired to make a corresponding cocktail.

Negroni Nice Cream

If you’ve ever made ‘nice cream’, you know how AMAZING frozen bananas are at impersonating ice cream when blended with a little bit of of liquid. They take on the texture of soft serve, and the banana flavor is very mild, especially if paired with strong flavors and if the bananas used are not too under or over ripe. I took this healthy recipe to the next level by blending it up with a classic Negroni and a little juice for an unexpected and delicious twist on dessert, #ginuary style.
