Cuisine American
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup cranberries fresh or frozen
- 1 orange peel optional
Combine all ingredients in a small saucepan over medium heat.
Stir occasionally to help the sugar dissolve. Bring to a boil.
Once bubbly, reduce the heat and simmer for 5 minutes. Don't over cook the syrup.
When the syrup is bright red and the cranberries have begun to burst, remove the saucepan from the heat and allow the syrup to cool.
Scoop out the cranberries and discard them. Strain the syrup through a fine mesh strainer to remove any seeds or bits of fruit.
Store your cranberry simple syrup in a glass bottle or jar in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
