Kiwi Passion Fruit Margarita

Amy Traynor
This bright green, sweet and tart drink is the perfect fruity tequila cocktail. Made with fresh kiwi and fresh or frozen passion fruit, it's easy to make no matter what time of year!

Ingredients

  • 1 kiwi
  • 2 oz tequila
  • ½ oz Cointreau or other sweetener, see Notes
  • 2 oz passion fruit juice or purée fresh or frozen, see Notes
  • 1 oz lime juice

Instructions

  • Peel the kiwi with a vegetable peeler or sharp knife. Chop the kiwi and add it to a cocktail shaker.
  • Muddle the kiwi thoroughly, then add the remaining ingredients and fill the shaker ¾ with ice.
  • Shake until chilled, then strain through a fine mesh strainer into a margarita or cocktail glass.
  • Garnish with passion fruit, kiwi, and mint. Alternatively, just garnish with a kiwi or lime wheel.

Notes

Cointreau alternatives for this recipe:
  • Another brand of triple sec
  • Orange curacao
  • Agave syrup / nectar
  • Simple syrup
Passion fruit options:
You can use fresh passion fruit, frozen passion fruit puree, or even passion fruit juice in a carton. Just be sure that it's unsweetened and not a juice blend. If your only option is a sweetened passion fruit juice, just skip the Cointreau.
I love the frozen cubed passion fruit puree from Pitaya Foods (it's available at Whole Foods and some Walmarts). It's seedless, helps to chill the drink, and has a predictable level of tartness.
