Amaterasu (Sun Goddess) Sake Cocktail with Buddha’s Hand

If you’re looking for an unusual cocktail, add this blend of sake, Buddha’s hand, yuzu, and pomegranate to your to do list.

I created this cocktail, named after the Japanese sun goddess, to join an Instagram “A-Z cocktails” event.

  • 2 oz Nigori sake
  • 3/4 oz Buddha’s hand syrup*
  • 1/2 oz yuzu juice
  • 1/4 oz pomegranate juice

Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker with ice and shake until chilled. Double strain into a chilled cocktail glass, top with sparkling water, mist with orange blossom water. Garnish with a spoonful of pomegranate seeds.

*Buddha’s Hand syrup

  • 100 ml (about a half cup) water
  • 100 g (about a half cup) sugar
  • 3 large ‘fingers’ of a Buddha’s hand

Combine water and sugar in a small saucepan over medium heat and stir until sugar dissolves. Add Buddha’s Hand and simmer until the syrup begins to thicken. Remove from heat, allow to cool, strain and enjoy. Store in the refrigerator.
